Which specialty fits me?

The specialty is the kind of doctor you are becoming.

There is no one specialty that is best. There is only the specialty that fits the work you actually want to do, the patients you want to be responsible for, and the life you want to be living at year ten. Some of these pages will read like a fit. Others will tell you, plainly, this one is not for you. Both readings are useful. The pages that try to sell you on a field are not the ones to trust.

The medicine specialties

Longitudinal care, internal physiology, the relationships built over years.

Hospital-based and image-driven

Pattern recognition under time pressure. Anesthesia, EM, radiology, pathology, interventional radiology.

The mind, the brain, the long relationship

Continuity, complexity, the inner life of the patient. Psychiatry, neurology, PM&R, dermatology.
